Cause analysis of oil leakage of reducer

1. Pressure difference between inside and outside the reducer: During the operation of the reducer, the temperature of the reducer rises due to friction and heat of the motion pair and the influence of ambient temperature. If there is no vent hole or the vent hole is blocked, the internal pressure will gradually increase. The higher the internal temperature, the greater the pressure difference with the outside world, and the lubricating oil will leak out from the gap under the action of pressure difference.

2. The structural design of reducer is unreasonable

1) the inspection hole cover plate is too thin, which is easy to deform after tightening the bolts, making the joint surface uneven and leaking oil from the contact gap;

2) In the manufacturing process of the reducer, the casting is not annealed or aged, and the internal stress is not eliminated, which will inevitably deform, produce gaps and lead to leakage;

3) There is no oil return groove on the box body, and the lubricating oil accumulates in the shaft seal, end cover, joint surface, etc., and leaks outward from the gap under the action of pressure difference;

4) The structural design of shaft seal is unreasonable. Early reducers mostly used oil groove and felt ring shaft seal structure, which made felt deformed by compression during assembly and sealed the joint gap. If the contact between the journal and the seal is not ideal, the seal will fail in a short time because of the poor compensation performance of felt. Although there are oil return holes in the oil channel, they are easily blocked and the oil return function is difficult to play.

3. Excessive oil filling: During the operation of the reducer, the oil pool is stirred badly, and the lubricating oil splashes everywhere in the reducer. If the oil filling is too large, a large amount of lubricating oil will accumulate in the shaft seal and joint surface, resulting in leakage.

4. Improper maintenance process: During equipment maintenance, oil leakage may also occur due to incomplete removal of dirt on the joint surface, improper selection of sealant, installation of seals in reverse direction, and untimely replacement of seals.
